Hiatt earns four medals at state, breaks 800 record

Bonners Ferry junior Erin Hiatt set a new school record and four medals during the 3A State Championship Track meet in Boise.

For the boys, junior Colton Watt won three, sixth-place medals

Hiatt broke a 29-year-old record set by Kelly Woods for her third-place finished in the 800-meter run. Hiatt completed the race in 2:21:94; the old school record was 2:24 set in 1980.

Buhl’s Skyler Barger completed the 800 in 2:21.35 and Alice Keller from Salmon took second with a run of 2:21.88.

“She (Hiatt) led for about 750 meters and one girls passed her and another was coming up on her,” said Badger coach Travis Hinthorn. “I know she was disappointed.”

Hiatt also placed second in the pole vault at 9-06 and fourth in the 300 hurdles with a run of 49.33, and ran on the Badger’s sixth-place sprint medley team. Others on the medley team, whose time was 1:57.56, were Mikki Erickson, Amy Andrews and Olivia Langs.

Langs took placed seventh in the 100 with a run of 13.55.

Senior Alicia Hedrick took sixth in the shot put with a throw of 34-01.50 and fifth in the discus with a throw of 105-02.

“On her last throw in the discus, she went from seven to fifth,” Hinthorn said.

Watt placed sixth in the 110 and 300 hurdles with times of 16:24 and 41:63.

“In the 300 hurdles, I think he hit the sixth hurdle and almost went down, but qualified for the last spot,” Hinthorn said.

Watt also was on the sixth-place 800-meter relay team, which finished in 1:34.2. Team members were Rock Stapley, Blake Skjeveland and Jacob Callister.

The Badgers took seventh in the 1600 relay with a time of 3:37.89. Runners were Callister, Quentin Fransoo, Dylan Sweeney and Watt. The team placed, but did not earn a medal.

Callister placed eighth in the 400 with a run of 53.17.

Overall the Lady Badgers placed eighth with 31 points and the boys placed 16th with 12 points.
