The fall sports award ceremony was held in the Becker Auditorium on Tuesday, November 10th. Ted Reynolds introduced each sport and talked about the success of each individual team. The first sport to recognize each athlete was the girl’s soccer team.

Two years in a row, a new pattern is set for the badger girls as they went to state again this year. A record of seven wins, ten losses, and two ties the girls worked hard to make it to state for the second time in two years. Their hard work and dedication paid off as they went 1-2 at state. A senior, Kendra Johnson was recognized for being the leading scorer of the entire 2009 season. Kina Wasmer plans to go to college next year and expand her soccer career for a few more years. Along with Kina and Kendra many other girls were awarded for sportsmanship, leadership, and being a team player. Sportsmanship: Liz Racer, Amanda Riley, Hailey Pruitt, and Mattie Severson. Leadership: Emily Pauls Team Player: Kina Wasmer

The soccer boys have been known for always having a successful season and even being so successful as to claim a State title in 2007. This season showed the same achievements as the boys had extremely successful amounts of wins. Winning league, the boys and fans looked forward to state. Blake Skjeveland scored a goal at state, but it wasn’t enough because they loss two games and were done. The players chosen for IML consisted of six boys who showed extreme dedication to the game. These athletes were Mat Evans, Carey Reynolds, Andre Zarate, Alex Mendez, Blake Skjeveland, and Aaron Moe. The following awards were given out to a select few who were chosen by their team and coaches. Most Improved: Daniel Palacios, Hero Award: Trevor Hampton, Best Defensive player Award: Blake Skjeveland, Best Offensive Player Award: Andre Zarate, MVP: Alex Mendez

The badger varsity volleyball girls struggled with a tough season, but still showed heart until every last point. Many would view the season as being unsuccessful, but to the fans and the players, the volleyball team was much more. With five seniors, the ending games did not send them to state, but brought them together in more ways then one can imagine.  The two captains, Casey Watt and Mikki Erickson kept the team together as the team had many learning experiences throughout the season. Casey Watt was chosen for IML, and she earned every aspect of the award. Along with Casey, other teammates earned awards too. Rookie of the Year: Jenna Gust, Most Improved: Markayle Acord, Most Inspirational: Casey Watt, Player of the Year: Mikki Erickson, and 110% Award: Casey Watt

Junior varsity volleyball girls showed a successful season with the new coach Desi Staples. A team consisting of sophomores and four freshmen, the girls worked hard as a team to earn every win. Each girl received confidence and friendships as the season progressed. The two sophomore floaters, Jenna Gust and Mattea Bertling, showed leadership and encouraged each teammate to do well. The future with volleyball looks promising for this group of girls.

“Everyone grew, nobody stayed the same, everyone got better, and that was the best part of the season.” Coach Bonnell quoted as he talks about the success of the boy’s and girl’s cross country teams. Both experienced many challenges throughout the eight invites, and rewarding practices. Through the speed work outs, and the intense races this team went through it all. The hard work paid off. At districts the boys placed first and the girls received second, with a total of 14 athletes moving on to state. The awards that were given out for the girls were, MVP: Erin Hiatt, Most Improved: Lorena LaBarbera, and the Most Effort goes to Katy Hiatt. The boys who were awarded were MVP: Dylan Sweeny, Most effort: Mika Krumpatich, and 110%: Zach Hammond

Two years ago the football team consisted of about 14 guys, and they were known as the Iron Man team. Offense, Defense, and Special teams, everyone played all the way around. The Badger football team almost disappeared because of the low number of players. As sophomores, the seniors this year helped reform the program. The dedication and passion for the game is real. Even through the hard work, and the tough games, the boys stuck through it and the football program is once again strong. Varsity’s record this year consisted of four wins, four loses, and one tie. The awards that were chosen by the teammates and the coaches. Manager award: Fallon Orr, JV MVP: Jacob Callister, Most Inspirational: Joel Atkins, The Plucky Fighter Award: Taylor Tompke, And MVP: Colton Watt.
