Five-foot-11 senior Hallie Payne scored a lay-in with 19 seconds left in the game against Post Falls Junior Varsity, give Bonners Ferry to its first lead of the second half which led to a win on Saturday.
Five-foot-11 junior Lady Badger Markayle Acord scored 18 points to lead her team to a 44-42 win at home.
“Hallie Payne and Markayle Acord played well inside together once again,” said coach Travis Hinthorn. “This was a great early season game for us. Post Falls was long and athletic. Facing pressure like this is good for us.”
Payne scored 10 points and made 10 rebounds, while 5-foot-8 senior Erin Hiatt added 9 points.

In other action, the Lady Badgers girls opened their season last week with a 60-28 victory over Clark Fork, behind Hiatt’s 14 points and Acord added 12.
“We scored off the opening tip and never looked back,” said coach Travis Hinthorn. “Hallie Payne and Markayle Acord. “Multiple players hit outside shots and that;s wgat we beeded to work on offensively. This was a good start and should give us some confidence going into our next game.”
Five-foot-3 senior Emily Pauls scored 8 points and Payne and 5-foot-9 sophomore Jenna Gust added 6 a piece.
