Claude Bisson of Bonners Ferry recently received the notable Idaho Teacher of the Year Award from the Idaho Human Rights Education Center.

A humanities and social sciences teacher at Boulder Creek Academy, Bisson promotes and fosters environments of tolerance and equality through an emphasis on global and local awareness.

A few years ago, he became involved with the human rights education center in Boise after stumbling upon a promotional invitation. Bisson commuted frequently to participate and contribute.

Bisson received a plaque for the honor, which he displays in his classroom at Boulder Creek amongst inspirational posters, policy advocacy displays and maps from around the globe.

Idaho Human Rights Education Center promotes respect for human dignity and diversity through education and fosters individual responsibility to work for justice and peace.

Bisson exemplifies this noble and sensical approach to learning and his efforts and progress are now noted and highly regarded. who said.

“The fact of the matter is that it is our children that will go on to form the future of our nation and its respective actions, so it is my job to educate students of the crucial importance of a global and inclusive environment in which to live in.”

The human rights education center fiscally sponsors the Idaho Safe School Coalition, provides resources and training for those in the field of education and facilitates a co-operative international dynamic between the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Colombia and Jordan.

Bisson recently returned from a 10-day conference in Jordan at the Jordanian Center for Civic Education Studies. He said he found it fascinating and informative to be in the Middle East and is grateful to be granted such an opportunity to take his knowledge and insight abroad.

Bisson taught throughout the United States and doesn’t believe Bonners Ferry will be his last stop.
