Cat killed with arrow

A Moyie Springs man is offering $500 in hopes of finding out who killed his family’s cat with a bow and arrow.

“If someone saw any leads . . . I will (pay the reward) after I sat through the crying with my kids last night. I think they’re one sick individual,” said Robert Pew, a deputy with the Boundary County Sheriff’s Office.

“This is the third cat (we’ve lost) in as many years,” Pew continued. “The other two went completely missing.”

Pew said he isn’t sure is the most recent incident could be someone seeking revenge because, as a deputy, he makes arrests.

“I’m kind of hoping to see if someone steps forward,” he said.

The orange tabby, which the family had for about one year, turned up missing on Sept. 27. Pew’s 12-year-old son found the cat dead two days later underneath a tarp in the backyard.

Pew believes the cat was shot in his driveway because he found blood splatters.

“I noticed them when I was sweeping the driveway,” he said.

Pew believes a youth-size compound bow was used to kill the cat. The arrow, which had a small game hunting tip, didn’t go through the animal, but hit him in the gut.

“It’s kind of unusual not for the arrow to go clean through,” he said.

The reward would go to anyone who provides information that leads to an arrest and conviction. Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 267-3151.
