The Lady Badgers soccer team will go to districts and  play third-place  Timberlake  at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, at Lakeland High School.

Bonners Ferry High School finished second in the Intermountain League with a 5-2-1 record.

“We start off playing Timberlake and they have the same record as us,” said Coach John Lindberg.

He expects the single elimination tournament will be tough, but the Lady Badgers have the capability and  ability to win against Timberlake.

“We lost to them and tied them during the season,” said Lindberg.  “It has to be a total effort. Timberlake isn’t a pushover and certainly will show up for the game as will we; it will amount to how badly we want it.”

The winner of the tournament will qualify for state tournament Oct. 22 through Oct. 24, in Nampa, according to Lindberg.

“I can look forward to state, but I will focus on the girls playing Timberlake first and foremost,” Lindberg said.

Out of the 21 girls on the team, only 18 will go to districts due to league rules.

“I would love to take all 21, but it isn’t allocated, so I have to try and take those who are going to be of greater benefit,” said Lindberg.  “We don’t really like this, but it is an annual decision all coaches have to make.”
