Local thrift store policy questioned

| October 15, 2009 9:00 PM

The other day I was rather surprised to see on the front door of Second Chance Thrift a notice that reads as follow:

Attention: Canadian and Montana Friends, to thank you for choosing our store for your shopping needs the Second Chance Thrift Store employees would like to show their appreciation by offering you a 15 percent discount off any purchase.  Honored every first Friday and Saturday of the month.  Proof of residency required.

My question is this the community here has and still is supporting Second Chance Thrift as a matter of fact if it wasn’t for local donations the store would not be in existence today.  So why are the employees of Second Chance Thrift not showing their appreciation to us the local community by giving us a discount.  As a a local resident who tries to shop here and help support our local businesses this kind of feels like a slap in the face.  Does the employees of Second Chance Thrift not realize they with the economy the way it is these days all shoppers local and non local could use a discount.  I know that when Second Chance Thrift has sales they are for all shoppers local or not all are welcome.  So why is the local community who has supported this store for years being discriminated against now?  What did this community do to offend the employees?  Maybe the employees have just forgotten who on a daily basis supports their store us the local community.  I know that the next tine I have donations I am going to spread them between Community Thrift and Caring People For Animals instead of Second Chance Thrift.   After all why should I continue to support Second Chance Thrift and its employees when they seem to not appreciate the support they get from our local community.
