We live in a nation that lets us have beliefs

| October 15, 2009 9:00 PM

Cheated? Deprived of a complete education? Replace the entire school board? An atrocity?

We live in a wonderful nation that has so many blessings and opportunities. Is public education the “be all, end all” of our children’s education? I hope not.

We, the parents, are educators. If a child was not allowed to view Obama’s speech and “seize the moment,” as a parent or guardian you could have picked up (or arranged for p/u if you work) your child and taken them home and returned half an hour later.

There was a link on the Boundary County School District page, You Tube, DVR, tape it yourself, the library, or ask friends and family to help if you don’t have access to TV or computer… so many options.

Maybe the atrocity doesn’t lie with the school board, but with us. My children are cheated everyday when they are not allowed to join together as a group (regardless of faith) and start their school day with prayer.

Our founding fathers were allowed to do this. Does this mean my children are cheated completely out of prayer? Of course not … work for change and move on to plan B. A public school will never be able to educate our children completely — that is up to us as parents.

We live in a nation that allows us to live our lives within our own belief system — we better seize this moment.  As for being self-righteous … I think we all sound that way.
