Man attempts to rob youth

A Moyie Springs man was arrested for threatening a teen with a knife while on felony probation.

On Sept. 27, Chris Jones, 19, allegedly pulled a knife on a 15-year-old boy after he demanded money from the teen.  The victim was riding his bike home on McCall Street and was approached by three males. 

According to court records, the teen told the man he only had 25 cents and the man later identified as Jones, pulled out a knife, opened it and told the teen he was going to “cut him” if he didn’t give him money.  Jones then put the knife away, pushed past the teen and went down McCall Street.

Boundary County Sheriff deputies made contact with Jones, and he admitted to having words with the teen but denied brandishing the knife, touching or threatening anyone.

 Deputies went to a home where Jones had just left, according to court records, and with permission from the homeowner  the living room area was searched.  The deputies found a knife matching the teens description, and friends of Jones told the deputies the knife belonged to Jones.

Jones was arrested for assault with intent to commit a robbery, a felony, and taken to Boundary County Jail  on a $100,000 bond.

Jones is scheduled for arraignment at 9 a.m.  Thursday, Nov. 5 at the Boundary County Courthouse.
