The Bonners Ferry High School girls soccer team lost two games and won one at the State Tournament.

On Saturday the Lady Badgers played against Community School and lost 2-1. On Friday Bonners Ferry played Filer and won 2-0 after losing to Snake River 2-0 on Thursday.

According to coach John Lindberg, the team lost two girls prior to leaving for state to illness, then two more girls to the flu after they arrived at the tournament.

“We actually did very well considering we only had 15 players, I am really proud of how the girls did, it was incredibly close the winning points scored seconds before the games ended on the two losses,” said Lindberg. We scored a total of three times during the tournament and our opponents scored four times, and total shots for us to the goal was 30 and 32 for our opponents.”

Lindberg said the teams were evenly matched and that was a big factor in the final scoring.

Lindberg expressed the need for soccer teams at the junior high level in order to give players experience they need to compete at the high school level.

“All it would take is volunteers or parents at the middle school who love the sport to put together a couple teams one male one female with 11 or 12 players on each team,” said Lindberg.

During the season Kendra Johnson score 19 times, Emily Pauls made 9 goals and Elizabeth Racer scored 5 goals.

The Lady Badgers had a total of eight wins, 11 losses and two tie games for the year.

“The majority of our losses were to much larger schools,” Lindberg said. We took second in districts and the girls got a nice trophy so in the interior league they proved to be proficient.”
