The Bonners Ferry High School football team will play Intermountain League undefeated Timberlake at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30.

Illness and injury are against the Badgers, who are 2-3 in the league.

“Half of our team wasn’t at practice Monday because the flu has it,” said Bonners Ferry head coach Ed DePriest. “If we had to play tonight, we would be without 11 starters. All we can do is have the kids lay as hard as they can.”

Running back Alek Lopez, who hurt his leg two weeks ago in the Kellogg game, is not likely to play against the Tigers.

“”I’m not going to put him in a position when he’s not healthy to play,” DePriest said.

After the Badgers lost 27-14 to Orofino on Friday, DePriest told the players that you do not beat good teams by fooling them.

“You beat good teams by playing disciplined, fundamental football,” he said. “You beat good teams in the off-season in the weight room and during the season by coming off the ball hard, sustaining blocks and wrapping up tackles. You don't win by fooling an opponent; you win by preparing and performing better than your opponent.

Against Orofino, Maniac Quarterback Michael Welch faked a pitch and ran in for the first touch-down and the extra point was good.

The Badgers’ first score came on a Colton Telford 9-yard run with 3:40 left in the first quarter. The two-point conversion attempt failed.

In the second quarter Telford scored on a 3-yard run with 10:57 left in the quarter; the Badgers ran a successful 2-point conversion.

With 26 seconds left in the half, Orofino’s Bill Brooks ran 65 yards for a touchdown and the extra point was missed.

With 10:09 left in the third quarter, Orofino scored a touchdown and the two-point conversion.

Orofino’s Brooks ran a 22-yard  touchdown with 33 seconds left in the third quarter.
