Richard P. “Dick” Strand, 79

Former Bonners Ferry resident Richard P. “Dick” Strand, 79, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009.

Dick was born Aug. 19, 1930, in Minot, N.D., to Bernt and Marguerite Hankey Strand

Dick graduated from Bonners Ferry High School and attended Pacific Lutheran in Tacoma, Wash., before graduating from University of Idaho.

He worked in pharmacitical sales for Merck, Sharp and Dome for many years and held pharmacy licenses in Washington and Idaho.

Dick married Doris Dold on June 5, 1954, in Pocatello. They moved to Mount Vernon, Wash., with their sons in 1966.

The family was active in Trinity Lutheran Church and Swinomish Yacht Club for several years. Through much of Dick’s life he was an avid boater and fisherman and very proud to be the Commodore at the Swinomish Yacht Club in the late 1970s.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Edward, sisters Marilyn and Donna Mae and his wife.

Dick is survived by sons Mark (Wendy) and Robert (Karla); grandchildren Jovan and Jared; nephew Kevin Schnuerle; and neices Jody (Schnuerle) Nelson, Linda (Schnuerle) Kingsland and Sue (Schnuerle) Witt.

The family would like to thank everyone in the community who has provided support, friendship and guidance to Dick throughout his life.
