Boundary County School District has received $78,980 from the Kootenai Tribe of Idaho.

The school district is very appreciative of the tribe’s generosity,” said superintendent Dr. Don Bartling. “Kootenai Tribe of Idaho and Boundary County School District No. 101 share a common desire for the betterment of education in Boundary County.”

A law known as Proposition 1 that went into effect in 2002 requires that money generated from casino revenues at the Kootenai River Inn in Bonners Ferry go to a school district. The tribe decides the amount of money.

In 2007, the tribe gave the school district a record $100,000, and last year’s allocation was $80,000.

The tribe in the past has given $25,000 to the district for the new girls’ softball field, $4,000 for Becker Auditorium, $10,000 for new playground equipment at Valley View Elementary School and $4,000 for playground equipment at Mt. Hall Elementary School.
