Story about sheep at fair misleading
In the recent newspaper dated Aug. 27, 2009, an article about “J.J. the sheep” was misleading and left out important details of the “guess my weight” contest at the Boundary County Fair.
Shelby Cowley and Beau came up with a great idea to help bring people into the Future Farmers of America barn at the fair. J.J., Beau’s 6-year old past 4-H project lamb, brought people of all ages into our barn to help promote FFA. The one thing we where missing were the prizes to give our to the winners of the contest.
Three of our local businesses generously donated at the drop of a hat 20 plus items to be given out. Columbia tractor Co. donated a John Deere straw hat. Boundary County Tractor donated T-shirt, hat and a hand full of Frisbees. The manager of Quality Farm and Garden donated knife sharpeners.
Those businesses, without hesitation, sponsored FFA to help promote our organization and it’s very important to me and all Bonners Ferry FFA members that those businesses are recognized.
Another piece of information was left out of the article was that this sheep was in the FFA barn. FFA put the contest together, made the signs and ran the contest. As an alumni of FFA, it’s important that the town understand what FFA does for us kids and that we can hopefully recruit more members to the organization.
FFA is grateful to Shelby Cowley for bringing J.J. and grateful to the business owners for supporting the local FFA chapter.
