Sweeney expected to return for Farragut
Bonners Ferry High School lead cross country runner Dylan Sweeney, who has missed four meets due to an injury, is expected to return for the Farragut Invite on Sept. 19.
A senior, Sweeney was born with bone splits in both of his feet. He cracked open the bone in his left foot while clearing brush from a steep hillside on Aug. 10. Sweeney then went on a 14-mile run.
“It got really bad so I went to the doctor and they put on a boot cast for three weeks,” he said.
The foot continues to heal and Sweeney is swimming and riding his bike to stay in shape. He swims three to six hours a week at Sandpoint Athletic Center and wears his wet suit to swim in the Kootenai River.
In the interim, the Badgers are filling in for Sweeney.
“There are guys having to step up,” said coach Paul Bonnell. “Fortunately, we have a big crew and a lot seem eager to step up.”
