Quarterback Taylor Tompke led Bonners Ferry to a 34-7 victory over Kettle Falls with third-quarter touchdown runs of 70 and 8 yards on Friday.

“It was good to be on the other end of the score like that,” said head coach Ed DePriest. “We still have a lot of polishing to do.”

Alek Lopez opened scoring on a 3-yard run in the first quarter. Senior Colton Watt kicked the extra point, making the score at 7-0.

Matt Henslee scored the second, first-quarter touchdown on a 2-yard run, putting the Badgers ahead 13-0.

Senior defensive back Derrick Alt than ran 42 yards for a touchdown after catching an interception. The Badgers led 20-0 at the half.

Kettle Falls scored a touchdown on a 13-yard run in the third quarter, but the Badgers answered with both of Tompke’s touchdowns for the final score.

“In general, the kids played well,” DePriest said. “When they faced a little bit of adversity, they responded to it. Other than that, there were still a lot of mistakes that need to be corrected.”

The Badgers at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, will host Newport. Newport lost to Priest River 34-0. Priest River is favored to win the Intermountain League.
