Board did not forbid airing Obama talk

| September 24, 2009 9:00 PM

In response to the school board’s decision regarding President Obama’s speech to our children.

The speech was not controversial, but other aspects must be considered. Our school board did not “expressly forbid the airing of the talk.” The district Web site stated “…President Obama’s speech will be made available for district teachers to schedule a time with their administrator for viewing the speech with student parental/guardian opt-out…” It could be viewed by following the guidelines.

Currently there is much concern surrounding the Obama administration and the potential for re-definition of our society. He vowed to “fundamentally transform the United States of America.”

What form will this transformation take? We must not be ashamed to thoroughly look at the “changes” being proposed and ask what is being taught to our children.

Nikita Kruschev stated during a visit:

“…Americans were being fed one small bite of communism at a time, and that over the course of several years, Americans will have accepted so many communistic ideals, including a massive and uncontrollable federal government, that one day we would wake up to discover that we are a democracy only in name — that our policies and methods of government will be communist in nature. Kruschev concluded that it will be the slow injection of socialist/communist principles into America — not nuclear missiles — that would destroy our nation.”

Are we saying this is happening? No. But we are saying it could.

We appreciate the school board reaching a decision to the best of their ability. President Obama’s speech was shown at Boundary County Middle School to many of our eighth-graders on Wednesday without parental notification. He spoke of values & integrity. His speech was shown by openly disregarding the guidelines set forth by the school board and breaking the rules.

Which message did the students hear the loudest???
