Relda Anne Poffenroth
Relda A. Poffenroth, wife of Elmer J. Poffenroth of Endicott, Wash., and Bonners Ferry, died unexpectedly at home in Palo Alto, Calif., on Aug. 21, 2009.
Relda was a loving mother, grandmother, wife and friend. Her beloved husband of 57 years, Elmer, passed in October 2000, and her brother Williamson Dee Cunningham in September 2005.
Elmer was born in Endicott, attended Endicott School, Bonners Ferry High and Lewiston Normal. He received a football scholarship to college and upon graduation, taught school at Porthill.
Elmer served in the Judge Advocate office of the Army from August 1942 to December 1945 in Southhampton, England, and Paris. On discharge he moved to Palo Alto, where Relda Cunningham, whom he had married June 15, 1943, at Camp Stoneman, Calif., was working as an accountant.
Relda is survived by her loving son John and his wife, Dagmar; daughter Patrice Bell and her husband John, and Tami Poffenroth; several grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; sisters-in–law Carolyn Smith of Seattle, Dorie Looney of Odessa Wash., Mary (Richard) Poffenroth of Spokane Valley Wash., and brother-in-law Harold (Toni) Poffenroth of Spokane Wash.
A memorial service to celebrate the life and memory of Relda will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3, First Baptist Church, in Palo Alto.
