Junior Taylor Tompke led the Bonners Ferry High School football team to a 32-0 shutout over Newport.

Junior Spencer Henlsee scored an 11-yard touchdown in the first quarter with Colton Watt kicking the extra point.

Tompke ran 27 yards for his first touch down in the second quarter and 15 yards for the second touchdown.  One extra point was missed and Watt kicked the extra point at ending the second quarter  with a score of 20-0.

The third quarter brought on a 1-yard touchdown for Tompke.  The kick for the extra point failed.

In the fourth, Tompke scored the last touchtown running for 5 yards.  A bad snap for the extra point ended the game with a score of 32-0.

“The kids played well and they are obviously performing much better than in the past,” said head coach Ed DePriest.  “They did a good job at stopping a team with good blocking at the point of attack. We’re getting better every week, reducing the amount of penalties.”

DePriest said the upcoming games will be the true test, especially at Priest River on Oct.2 and  here  with Timberlake on Oct. 9.

“Bottom line we have a long way to go and need to keep improving to win in the next couple weeks,” said DePriest.

The Badgers play at St. Maries at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25.
