Webelos help with byway project

| April 1, 2010 9:00 PM

The Weblos from local Cub Scout Pack 114, led by Packmaster Nadine Colegrove, helped Tom Mackey of Northwest Tree and Reclamation harvest willows, dogwood and cottonwood.

The Scouts helped out with the  conservation project which will provide material to be planted on the 1-1/4 miles  of new shoreline being created on the Sand Creek Byway project in Sandpoint.

This brush, planted by NW Tree and Reclamation, will actually take root and will grow helping to establish a vegetated shoreline.

More than 52,000 cuttings, in addition to other planting and seeding, will be used for the project.

“The boys had a wonderful time and really enjoyed themselves,” said David Suhr, assistant leader of Weblos Two.

“I am sure in future years they will look at the shoreline and remember they had a part in planting it. I remember the conservation projects I was on while I was in Scouts."
