Bonners Ferry Warriors Lacrosse Club drops Opener to Gonzaga Prep
SPOKANE — The Bonners Ferry Lacrosse Club lost its first season game to Gonzaga Prep 12-3 on April 1under the lights on Gonzaga’s artifical turf field.
Gonzaga Prep went on an 8-0 run before Ryan Mullison found the back of the net in the third period. Zach Wilson added two more goals on great dodge moves. He was also stuffed by the Gonzaga goalie three more times from point blank range.
Bonners Ferry’s backup goalie Josh Miller, with just one day’s practice in nets, made several key saves. He was substituting for Max Novak, who was sidelined due to a snow boarding accident.
Over all the team did well, picking up a third of the ground balls, and Matt Marcus won 50 percent of his faceoffs. However, the team made several bad passes and poor shot selections resulting in the ball being turned over.
If the team is going to be successful in the future, the senior attackmen Matt Marcus and Matt Piccolo; and midfielders Chris Moran, Matt Eule, Zach Smith and Matt Hubbs will need to be more productive in the scoring department.
On defense Shayne Hamilton, Joey Welch and Sean Cooney will need to be more aggressive to prevent the offense from taking point blank shots on goal.
The first home game for Bonners Ferry will be played against Logos, from Moscow, at the fairgrounds at 5 p.m. on April 12. Logos is one of the more experienced teams in the league with their players starting to play lacrosse in the 4th grade.
So if you are looking for the fastest game with contact, on grass, look no further than next Monday night at 5 p.m. at the fairgrounds. Admission is free. Come out and cheer for the Bonners Ferry Warriors.
