Badgers come back to down Timberlake

| April 22, 2010 9:00 PM

After falling in both ends of a double header to the Timberlake Tigers last Tuesday, the Badger girls got a little revenge this Tuesday, winning their first league game of the season, 11-8, despite rainouts all but eliminating their pre-season play.

The win puts the Badgers at 1-3 on the season and in league with only four games played.

The league-leading Tigers dominated the Badgers in a pre-season makeup double header April 15, winning 20-6 and 15-6.

In game one, Chelsea Taggart pitched all seven innings, striking out five while walking one. Rebecca Farrens chalked up two hits, including a double, Fallon Orr and Ivy Dirks each popped a double and Samantha Robertson, Mattea Bertling, Caitlin Alexander, Chelsea Taggart and Aramie Hoisington each tapped out singles.

Taggart pitched six innings in game two, striking out six with one walk, and then led at bat, cracking four, including two doubles. Bertling connected with two and Robertson, Farrens, Orr, Brenna Maas and Dirks each nailed singles.

On Saturday, the girls traveled to St. Maries for their first league double header, and fell to the number two ranked Lumberjacks 10-4 and 13-3.

Taggart pitched both games, striking out two and walking one in the opener but nary a strike out and three walks in game two. Batting for the Badgers was lackluster in game one, with Alexander hitting a double and Robertson and Bertling each tapping singles, but it picked up in game two, with Bertling and Alexander each getting two hits, each with a double, Maas picking up two singles and Robertson, Taggart and Belle Wages each hitting singles and Bertling tapping in a double.

Statistics for the winning game Tuesday were unavailable at press time.

The Badgers travel to Sandpoint for a makeup game against the JV Bulldogs tomorrow at 4 p.m., then host the struggling Priest River Spartans, 0-4 in league and 1-9 overall, at 11 a.m. Saturday.
