BADGERS SPLIT WITH JACKS

The Bonners Ferry Badgers traveled to Lumberjack country last Saturday for a baseball doubleheader and came away with a split decision. 

    St. Maries 6, Bonners Ferry, 3

The Badgers left 10 batters on base including a bases loaded, two out, called third strike looking to end the game as the St. Maries Lumberjacks won the first game 6-3. 

Bonners Ferry scored first in the top of the fourth inning after Zack Sack and Matt Holak scored on a passed ball. The Lumberjacks responded in the bottom half scoring two runs after Jaden Guidry walked and Kyle Stephenson hit a run scoring double. 

Stephenson later scored on a single from Matt Sempel. St. Maries scored four runs with only one hit in the bottom of the fifth inning after back to back errors from the Badgers and a walk. 

Bonners Ferry responded with a lone run in the sixth inning after Holak walked and later scored.  With two outs in the top of the seventh, the Badgers loaded the bases with consecutive walks to Matt Surrena and Zach Maas and a single from Alex Kellogg.  Zack Sack was called out on a third strike looking to end the game. 

Matt Surrena pitched a complete game for the Badgers giving up only four hits, striking out three and walking four batters. Surrena went one for two and Kellogg went one for three at the plate. 

Bonners Ferry  21,  St. Maries  5 

The Badgers avenged the earlier loss by taking advantage of 10 walks and three hit batters with a 21 – 5 win over St. Maries. The game was called after five innings due to the 10-run rule. 

Senior Alex Kellogg pitched a complete game scattering six hits, striking out seven and walking four.  He also hit a triple and two-run home for the Badgers. 

The Badgers scored four runs in the top of the first when Colton Telford, Alek Lopez, Matt Surrena, and Zach Maas scored after the Lumberjacks hit a batter and walked two. 

Maas hit a two-run double in the inning. St. Maries responded with two runs in the bottom of the first and three runs in the bottom of the second inning to go ahead 5-4. The Badgers scored nine runs in the third inning on only two hits.

 The Jacks allowed six walks and a hit batter in the inning. Bonners Ferry added seven more runs as the Lumberjacks walked another two batters and a hit batter. Kellogg hit his first high school (over the fence) home run in the inning.

Matt Surrena, Zack Sack, Matt Holak each collected hits and Alex Kellogg and Zach Maas each got two hits in the game.
