Bonners Ferry Recycling and Solid Waste

Solid waste is an issue that is sitting on the front door of our community.

Part of that discussion is recycling.  For our community recycling is a way of keeping material out of the landfill.

At 6:30 p.m.,  Monday, May 3,  in the Visitors Center the Bonners Ferry City Council is holding a public meeting.  The goal of this meeting is to provide a forum for citizen’s to express their desires and concerns regarding solid waste and in particular recycling.

One of the concerns is the status of our landfill.  We are currently operating under a small community exemption which limits the landfill to 20 tons per day.  As a community we are pushing that limit.  The Boundary County Commissioners have agreed to provide the background and current information on the status of our landfill.

The next issue is the cost of recycling.  Recycling does costs, however over time it is the cheapest way of disposing of the products that can be recycled.  Frederickson’s Bonners Ferry Garbage Company has worked hard to estimate the costs of collection and will provide input on the anticipated expense of a curbside recycling program.

Please come listen to the background and then express your views, desires, and concerns.
