Spring weather greets Farmer's Market
A mixture of sun, rain and blustery winds ushered in opening day of the Bonners Ferry Farmer’s Market on Saturday, in the city parking lot.
Despite the typical spring weather, most vendors thought there was a good turnout.
Marsha Semar, owner of Marsha’s Cottage Garden, said, “A good first market, lots of people coming out.”
Just Donuts owner’s Ralph and Beverly Byquist said there was a “pretty good turnout” in spite of the weather.
By 10 a.m. Jamie Harris had given away 50 blue spruce seedlings in celebration of opening day.
There was an assortment of early spring greens, plant starts, baked goods and homemade goods.
Among the items for sale were lettuce, kale, spinach, rhubarb, vegetable starts, herb starts, raspberry plants and strawberry plants. Kettle Corn, bagels, donuts and cinnamon rolls were offered next to jams, jewelry, lawn furniture and much more.
Jody McClintock was selling her surplus spring greens and plant starts since she over planted her seeds.
“Thought I would share,” said McClintock.
MarciaVee Cossette was selling her worm tea fertilizer, which she finds is a “marvelous thing” because “nothing goes to waste.” She has been making worm tea for twenty years and still finds it fun.
The Byquists find the market “lots of fun” and have been at the market for five years with their homemade donuts.
The Bonners Ferry Farmer’s Market is heldfrom 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday, in the city parking lot.
