Travis William Bennett, 40
Travis William Bennett, 40, passed away on April 23, 2010, at Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Services will be held on Saturday May 1, 2010, at 10 a.m. in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, with interment in the Grandview Cemetery.
Travis was born on April 7, 1970, in Spokane, Wash., to Cheryl and Bill Bennett. At age one he moved with his family to Bonners Ferry in 1971, where he has resided all of his life.
As a youth he participated in boxing, boy scouts, football and already demonstrated an intense love for hunting. For all of his school day he was seldom seen without brother Chuck and cousins Bert and Cliff, known to most as the “Bentlocks”.
After graduation from high school he joined the US Army and was stationed in Germany when the Berlin Wall came down. He attended the University of Idaho for a short time. Travis later got his taxidermist license. Travis worked in several different logging jobs throughout his life.
Travis married Tonja Surprenant, joining her and her three children; Mat, Kristen and Tara, later adding another four children Wyatt, Mikayla, Jadyn and Jorryn to their family.
When disabilities made him unable to continue logging he became a full time stay at home dad.
Relationship with God, his children and his extended family were the predominant focus of his life. Hunting and his endless pursuit to find the perfect rack remained his primary pastimes.
Travis was preceded in death by his daughter Mikayla who died at birth.
He is survived by his parents Bill Bennett and Cheryl Myers; siblings Robin, Chuck, Summer and Billy Bennett, Jason Myers and Jenna Myers Magee and husband Ryan, six children Kristin James, Mat and Tara Surprenant, Wyatt, Jadyn and Jorryn Bennett, four grandchildren Evan, Emma and Jaxxon James and Miley Sund, along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
