Baptiste A. Aitken, 24, and his wife, Wendy A. Aitken, 27, Badger Lane, Bonners Ferry, were both spared prison terms after entering plea deals after being charged Feb. 23 on multiple drug charges.

After an investigation by the Boundary County Drug Task Force, Baptiste Aitken, who was arrested by his parole officer and found to have two different types of medication in a prescription bottle, including five 10-miligram methadone pills for which he had no prescription, was charged with two counts of possession of methadone and one count of possession of morphine, all felonies.

He also was charged with misdemeanor counts of possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia and one count of injury to a child for allegedly leaving those drugs within reach of a three year old.

In his plea deal, Aitken pled guilty to two counts of felony possession of a controlled substance, and he was sentenced to two- to six-years in prison, which was suspended.

He was additionally sentenced to 180 days in jail, fined $2,000, ordered to pay $550 restitution and $495 court costs, and placed on five years supervised probation.

Wendy Aitken faced the same charges, with one added count of injury to a child after her day old child tested positive for methadone at birth.

She pled guilty to one count of felony possession of a controlled substance and one misdemeanor count of possession of a controlled substance, and was also sentenced to two- to six-years in prison, suspended, ordered to perform 100 hours of community service and pay $673 in court costs and $150 restitution.

She was placed on supervised probation for three years.

As part of their probation, both must undergo drug evaluation and rehabilitation.
