Badger Soccer Boys Open Season With Win

| August 26, 2010 9:00 PM

The Bonners Ferry Badger Boys Soccer Team opened their 2010 season last Friday with a  3-0 win over Lakeland.

After a scoreless first half, the Badgers struck for three second-half goals, the first by junior forward Andre Zarate in the 52nd minute off an assist from senior midfielder Aaron Moe.

Zarate then fed senior midfielder Alex Mendez with a beautiful through pass which Mendez converted in the 57th minute to make it 2 – 0.

Bonners capped the scoring in the 65th minute when senior forward Jesse Gondek volleyed in a cross from Mendez.

The Badger defense, anchored by senior goalkeeper Mat Evans and defenders Trevor Hampton, Hayden Wakkinen, Keaton Tremble, Ken Pew, and Evan Moe rarely allowed the Hawks many good scoring opportunities.

On Saturday, Aug. 21, the Badgers traveled to Moscow to face the Bears in another non-league match.

Bonners was outmatched in every facet of the game in losing 8–0 to the 4A Bears, which pays a visit to BF in October  for a return match in the last game of the year.

This years team consists of seniors Mat Evans, Jesse Gondek, Trevor Hampton, Alex Mendez, Aaron Moe, Aaron Borne, Pedro Girao, Andrew Morales, and Matt Piccolo.

Juniors are Daniel Palacios, Ken Pew, Zack Ray, Hayden Wakkinen, and Andre Zarate.
