Four injured in North Hill collision

Four people, including two children, were injured in a two-vehicle collision Friday afternoon at the intersection of U.S. 95 and Homestead Loop.

According to Idaho State Police corporal Dustin Kralik, Rachel Tye, 17, Moyie Springs, driving a 2003 Kia Rio, was traveling north and pulled into the designated turn lane to make a left turn onto Homestead Loop.

She made the turn, pulling out in front of a southbound Ford Escape van driven by Shirley Elliott, 72, Bonners Ferry. Her vehicle broadsided Tye's vehicle on the passenger side, knocking the vehicle off the road and trapping Tye inside. Elliott's vehicle rolled once and came to rest about 25-yards south of the point of impact.

Elliott was traveling with two granddaughters, whose names and ages were not released; according to a witness on the scene, the children were out of the vehicle and safe with a passerby who stopped for the collision before official help arrived on scene.

Boundary Volunteer Ambulance EMTs used extrication gear to cut Tye free of her vehicle.

All four were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision and were transported to Boundary Community Hospital where they were all treated and released.
