Paving on Deep Creek Loop to begin in September
An overlay of the existing pavement on Deep Creek Loop will begin on or about Sept. 1.
The project consists of some soft spot repair, an asphalt scrub coat and just under 2" of new hot mix asphalt applied to Deep Creep Look starting at Schoolhouse Road and proceeding north about three miles to a location just south of Ruby Creek.
A continuation of this project will take the pavement on north to Moravia. That portion of the project is now readied for bidding, but construction will likely not occur until spring.
Delays should be minimal and limited to one lane traffic around the paving operation.
These two projects, which total about $1.2 million, were funded with Federal Highways dollars from the ARRA stimulus funding and the Rural Surface Transportation programs.
As a side note, the recently completed Moyie highway project, which reconstructed and paved Roosevelt Road (old highway to Moyie) from end to end, was also an STPR project utilizing.
That project used almost $1.5 million in federal funding. Take a ride out there, it is really nice.
This represents a total of $2.7 million in local road improvements this year alone that local taxpayers did not have to pony up for. These grants were all highly competitive and we did well to get them. We even managed to procure a $100,000 grant from the Local Rural Highway Improvement Program to provide the Boundary County and Moyie Springs portion of the required 7.3 percent matching funds for the Moyie Highway Project.
In procuring grants like these, as well as the upcoming bridge projects, we have been able to provide some local jobs.
