Lloyd Kenneth Schave

Lloyd Kenneth Schave, 93, passed away on Dec. 6, 2010, at the Boundary County Nursing home in Bonners Ferry, Idaho.

Funeral Services were held on Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, at 11a.m. in the United Methodist Church in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, with interment in the Grandview Cemetery.

Lloyd was born near Granite, OKla., to George Frederick and Ruby Dell (Kerschner) Schave on Feb. 17, 1917.

When he was the tender age of two, his family moved up to Sanborn County, SD. His father passed away three years later, forcing this young family to move the small town of Fulton, S.D.

This is where Lloyd started his education. He only went to school through the ninth grade. In 1924, his mother remarried and the family to move several more times.

In 1934, he helped move friends Bill and Mary (Chappel) Irwin to Bonners Ferry. This is where he got his first taste of the mountains. He worked for the WPA, and the 3 CCC's over the years.

On Dec. 23, 1941, he enlisted in the Army and took training to be an Aircraft Mechanic in the Army Air Corps.

He served in the South Pacific, mostly in New Guinea until WW II ended and he was discharged from Ft Dix, N.J. on Nov. 12, 1945. He purchased a Harley Davidsen motorcycle and traveled Idaho, Washington and Colorado eventually moving back to S.D. where he married the love of his life, Amelia Gerstenencker on Jan. 22, 1948.

 To this union five children were born. He graded roads and farmed until settling on the Wendt homestead in 1951. They farmed there until 1969 when allergies forced him to stop farming. Lloyd and Amelia moved to Bonners Ferry in June of 1970.

He began working at a pellet mill out at Ball Creek Ranch and then went to work at the boiler room at the Bonners Ferry Lumber Co. retiring in 1981.

Over the years, Lloyd was active in the American Legion both in South Dakota and Idaho, was a school board member for may years, was a board member at the Senior Center for more than 25 years, and was active in the United Methodist Church until he could no longer hear the sermons.

He always enjoyed being social and went to coffee for years with the "guys". He was an avid reader and loved to play cards and dominoes with his family of all ages.

He is survived by his children, Charlotte Kothe, Ray Schave, Charlene Mullis, Larry Schave and Shirley Schave all of Bonners Ferry.

Grandchildren, Gina(Kothe) Minor (Joel), Christine (Kothe) Drapeau, Luke Kothe, Susie (Kothe) Hanson (Steve). Christopher, Brittany, and Nicholas Schave, Tristan Mullis, and Jacob Schave. Great-grandchildren, Brooke and Dustin Drapeau, Brandon and Denny Neuman, Desirae and Anthony Minor, Steven, Caleb, and Ryan Hanson. Preceeding Lloyd were his parents, brothers, Beryl and infant, Lyle, sister, Daphne and Amelia, wife of 60 years and 8 months in 2008.
