Bonners Ferry Wrestling Tournament opens Friday

Bonners Ferry Wrestling Tournament opens at 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, with the Badgers taking on Orofino.

Bonners Ferry will wrestle St. Maries at 5 p.m. Friday and follow against Kellogg at 7.

Badger coach Conrad Garner said the weekend tournament will be a preview of the District 1 tournament on Feb. 19 and 20 at Lakeland High School.

“Everyone in the league will be here,” Garner said. “It will give us a good viewpoint at what will happen.”

Schools participating in this weekend’s tournament at Bonners Ferry High School will be Priest River, Orofino, Timberlake, Kellogg, St. Maries and Wallace.

Saturday, Feb. 6, will be an individual bracket tournament.

In recent action, freshman Blaine Invernon (103) defeated Peter Berger of Post Falls 7-4 in the finals of the KWAL George Wild tournament in Kellogg, helping the Badgers finish fifth. Trevor Hampton and Benny Watt finished second at 140 and 135, respectively, and David Williams third at 215 for the Badgers.

In the B bracket, Dusty Kohler place first in 125; Tyson Boorman, second in 112; and Josh Miller and Joe Neumeyer fourth in 145 and 160, respectively.
