Police need to pay attention to speeders

| February 4, 2010 8:00 PM

I believe most of the police officers in our city and county do a phenomenal job serving and protecting the public, but there are a couple officers that have their priorities completely out of order.

I live here in town near the cemetery, and there are vehicles that speed by my house at 40 and 50 miles an hour, with no regard to children or pets.

The speed limit in this area is 20, which is perfectly reasonable for a neighborhood that constantly has dogs, cats and children roaming around the streets and sidewalks. In two years living up here though, I have not seen one speeding ticket, and hardly a sign of patrol cars.

I know of people in the past couple years that have been pulled over and harassed by some of the officers in our town for drinking, swerving, not signaling, etc., and been released because they were found completely innocent and/or sober.

I would like to see more attention paid to driving violations that matter most in this town, like speeding around neighborhoods and not random traffic stops for bogus reasons where the officer just wants to nail down another DUI.

I totally believe that driving under the influence is wrong and needs to be enforced, but much more attention should also be paid to these neighborhood speeders, or someone is going to get seriously injured.
