Carl Dean Wortley, 63
Carl Dean Wortley, 63, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010, at Bonner General Hospital in Sandpoint.
A funeral service was held Tuesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Bonners Ferry.
Carl was born Aug. 30, 1946, in Idaho Falls to Chester Lynn and Dorothy Grace Haight Wortley. He was raised in Howe and went to school in Arco.
Carl joined the U.S. Army in 1966 and was in the 1st Air Calvary in Vietnam from 1966 to 1968.
In 1969, he married Sue Ann Cummings from Arco. From 1972 until 1984, the couple had a daughter and five sons.
Carl and his family lived many places over the years. While on their way to Alaska, they stopped in Bonners Ferry. They have been here for 23 years.
Carl was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He was active with Idaho Search and Rescue, as a volunteer firefighter, Cub Scout leader and the chief of the Winedot Indian tribe for Idaho.
Carl’s life was filled with many years of leadership and service to everyone he came in contact with.
Survivors include his wife in Naples; daughter Angela Kester of Boonville, Calif.; sons Corey Wortley of Boise, Justin Wortley of Bonners Ferry, Trinity Wortley of Coeur d’Alene, and Joshua Wortley and Andrew Wortley, both of Naples; grandchildren Tyrell , Alonzo, Dyanie and Josie Wortley, all of Naples, Nevlin Wortley and Starr McKenzie, both of Coeur d’Alene, and Devin Tyler of Boonville; his mother of American Falls; and sisters Tammy Wortley of Four Corners, Ariz., and Marie Smhigall and Ruth Montross, both of American Falls.
