And then there was one

Dairy farming in Boundary County is beyond endangered.

One dairy north of Bonners stands between what was a county, which up until the mid-1970s, boasted 30 dairies to an entity extinct!

A dairy in central Bonner County on Selle Road most likely will keep our lone hold out in the milk truck “loop.”

Dwayne Wedel and sons Doug and Mike, now milking over 90 on Fawn Lane, are second- and third-generation dairy men on the old Vernon Wedel farm.

Speaking with Dewayne this evening, he admitted that in a sense, he and sons are some what vulnerable to shipping, but with Polestra in Sandpoint and the current demand for milk, processors may absorb the percent of cost (trucking) once absorbed by the Gilbert Unruhs, who retired from the business in December 2009.

Seems a long time ago, I lived with Peasters on Sand Hill. Enjoyed the simple life and cows.
