Moose Madness display of school spirit

| January 21, 2010 8:00 PM

Saturday evening Jan. 16, my wife and I traveled to Sandpoint Middle School to help judge the annual Moose Madness basketball game and competition between the Sandpoint and Bonners Ferry high schools.   What an absolutely delightful evening.

It’s easy in today’s society to label youth according to the uncomplimentary habits and actions a few.  How refreshing it was too observe all the well behaved young people from both schools exhibit such exemplary sportsmanship, both in the stands and on the floor.  The superb performances of all the athletes, musicians, cheerleaders,  dancers and stompers testified to their many hours of dedicated practice and self discipline.

An important part of the competition included student fund raising for the respective food banks.  Kudos to the BFHS student body who out-did SHS students two to one raising cash for the food bank.

This event reminded me of how school spirit used to be.  Both Bonners Ferry and Sandpoint can be very proud of their high school students.  We enjoyed being a part of this fun competition and encourage everyone to support our students in next year’s Moose Madness, which will be held in Bonners Ferry.
