Teen discovered by talent scout

Katie Enns is a small town girl with big dreams.

Since she was young, the 17-year-old dreamed of singing professionally and is one step closer.

Katie belongs to the Bonners Ferry High School Honor Choir and  the Children’s Choir Swingin on a Star.  She enjoys all types of music but  her favorites are country, pop and gospel.

The Bonners Ferry girl  has been chosen by Nova Model and Talent Scouts to represent Team USA for the World Championships of Performing Arts from July 17 through July 25, in Hollywood, Calif.

“Someone heard me sing when I performed at Schweitzer and referred me to the talent agency,” Katie said.

She went to an audition in Coeur d’ Alene, and according to her mother, Freda Kelley, the agents chose her on the spot; Katie didn’t require a call-back.

“Their exact words were, ‘you have it, you are going all the way,’” said Kelley. “Every time she performs anywhere she just stands out, and her grandma nicknamed her ‘precious star.’”

The Bonners Ferry High School senior has been performing since she was young.

“If I get to make an album someday it will be kind of old-fashioned, like Black Hawk or some of the older country music,” Katie said.  “I don’t care about being famous, that is not why I am doing this I just love music and I love to sing.” 

The competition includes participants from 57 countries and is deemed the official Olympics of performing arts.  Katie can win notoriety as well as scholarships and medals.  Music producers, casting agents and representatives from Disney,  Sony and MTV will be attending the competition.

Katie moved to Bonners Ferry with her family six years ago.  She was born in Calgary, Canada and has a brother Coltyn, 19, and a sister, Stacey, 11. 

“We are so excited and can’t wait,” Stacey said.

Katie’s mother has set up an account at Wells Fargo for anyone interested in helping Katie make it to Hollywood.

“This is something I have dreamed of since I was a kid,” said Katie. “I would appreciate it if the community could help support me in my dream.”
