Trucker hurt in crash

A Priest River man was hurt at 6 a.m. Friday when the tractor-trailer he was driving jackknifed and was struck by the driver of another truck on U.S. Highway 95 north of Elmira, Idaho State Police said.

Derwin J. Alexander, 47, was treated and released from Bonner General Hospital in Sandpoint.

Alexander was northbound when he lost control of his truck while entering the McArthur Lake curves. The truck slid sideways into the northbound guardrail, jackknifed and came to a rest. It was then struck by a northbound box truck driven by Larry J. Power, 35, of Spokane, Wash. Power was not injured.

The highway was blocked for about three hours.

Alexander was cited for failing to maintain his lane of travel.

Both motorists were wearing seat belts, police said.
