Man admits to making counterfeit money

A Boundary County man admitted to authorities he was making and passing counterfeit money, according to court records.

Billy Jo Mutter, 45, who was arrested Sunday, remains in Boundary County Jail on $100,000.

According to court records, Shirley Elliott, owner of the Moyie Store, on Sunday, told sheriff's deputy Jody Hubbard that customer Richard Solt was possibly trying to pass a fake $50 bill in her store.

Hubbard interviewd Solt, who indicated that Mutter gave the money to Solt. According to court records Mutter admitted during an interview with detectives he was making the money in his home and passing it knowingly throughout Boundary County.

"This matter is under further investigation and it is a possibilty we will be able to link him (Mutter) with an earlier case from a few months ago, but we can not prove it at this point," said Boundary County Chief Deputy Sheriff Rich Stephens.

Boundary County Detective Dave McClelland said that no money was found during the search of Mutters home.

Mutter has been charged with possession of forged bank notes. A scanner, computer and paper was seized from his home.

Mutter has a preliminary hearing is set for 1:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, in Boundary County Courthouse.
