Bonners Ferry 2010 Water Line Projects
In 2005 the citizens of Bonners Ferry voted on a $3 million water bond.
These water system improvements have been primarily funded by Rural Development, Department of Agriculture with a $2.75 million loan, supplemented by a $1 million grant.
The final $800,000 of this work is being completed this spring and summer by Earthworks Northwest, a Sandpoint Contractor.
This final phase consists of three water lines.
The first, with main line installation expected to be completed by the first week of July, is from the Northside tank, down Chippewa Street to Marx Estates.
This line will replace an undersized and degraded line to provide adequate flows to the Marx Estates area. After installation the road will be patched and chip-sealed.
The second line is from the city yards, down the hill and up Oak Street to Montana Street. After installation the road will be patched and chip-sealed. This line will provide increased fire flows and pressure to the higher elevations of Eaton Townsites.
The third line will be from an existing pressure reducing station behind the United Methodist Church down Alderson Lane to the pump station for the South Hill tank. This will replace a degraded line in anticipation of the rebuild of Alderson Lane.
These water lines are primarily being installed on public rights-of-way and whenever possible between the road surface and the front property line. It is City practice to ensure the contractor leaves the disturbed area in good condition after installation of the pipeline.
