Calderone finishes well in series
BONNERS FERRY — The last and final race of the Bonners Ferry Barrel Series kicked off at 6:30 p.m. sharp on June 30.
The ground was great, and the weather just a tad bit windy, but no rain and just the right temperature made it a perfect Wednesday evening for barrel racing.
The first open race was sponsored by Bear Auto, 3M Ranch, and Napa for the $100 added.
The second open race was sponsored by Praying Monk Ranch, LLC. for the $100 added. 10 open riders showed up for both races and five youth riders, and four senior riders.
The race saw very familiar faces take over the leader board. Becky Calderone once again dominated the 1D with her first run of an 18.889 for a 1D check worth $77.50. Closest to her was Cheyenne Brisson with a 19.236.
In the 2D Jasmine Thill took the win with a 19.620 and $72.25 closely followed by fellow Troy Montana cowgirl Kim Thompson with a 19.846.
The 3D went to local Naples cowgirl Liz King on her horse Callie with a 20.347 and $65.25 check put into her pocket. Sandpoints Lenora Norton was behind her with a 20.496.
4D went to Post Falls, barrel racer, Kailyn Hartt, with a 20.923 and $60.00. Amber Reimer took 4D second with a 22.731. Rounding out the 4D was Marcy Bloom on her back up horse with a 25.274.
In the youth race Te Ata Montgomery from Bonners Ferry on Leo took the 1D with a 18.859. Cheyenne Brisson rolled her time over from the open to get another second place finish in the 1D with a 19.236. Jasmine Thill won the 3D with a 20.196 and Leah Peycke close behind her.
In the senior class Kim Thompson carried her time over from the open for a 1D check in the senior and a $31.50 check. Bonners Ferry’s Laurie Lewis with a 22.536 won the 3D check.
In the second race, Calderone dominated again with her 18.655 for a $100.25 check. No one was close to her with in a second and no one won a 2D check. The 3D went to Cheyenne Brisson with a 19.714 and $82.75 check. In the 4D Liz King won another big check with her 20.794 and $67.00 for her efforts.
Thirteen year old Te Ata Montgomery won again in the youth 1D with a 19.017 on her paint Leo. Cheyenne Brisson rolled her open time to the youth and her 19.714 took the youth 2D win. Jasmine Thill won another check with her 20.109 in the 3D.
Kim Thompson ran another clean run for a 20.078 to take the 1D senior win. Julie Maguire was close behind her with a 20.153. In the 3D was Mike Montgomery with his personal best of 22.381 and followed by Laurie Lewis with a 22.754.
