Laurence l. Olson, 81

Laurence l. Olson, 81,passed away July 5, 2010. 

He was born July 22, 1928, to Lester L. and Adeline Olson at Sandpoint.         He was dubbed “Storky” by his high school basketball coach. Bonners Ferry friends, where he lived until joining the U.S. Marines with a buddy group, only knew him by that. 

After the service he attended Telegraph School in Spokane which led to 40 years of employment with Spokane International and Union Pacific Railroads. His fellow employees all knew him as Ole. Trentwood station agent was among his assignments.

 He married Eleanor Tysdal in 1951 and they built their first home in Bonners Ferry while he worked relief shift at the SI depot. He was transferred to Spokane in 1957 and they purchased an apartment building where they raised their family and were surrogate parents to many young people over 45 years. 

Larry, as his Emmanuel Lutheran church family knew him, served his church in many capacities including congregation president.

After retiring he used his many talents and carpentry skills to help remodel the sanctuary in 2001. Known by Bud to tenants and family who survive including wife of 59 years, Eleanor and sister Jeannine (Hank) Scott. He was Dad to Lora Lee (Jay) Carlson and Kent (Barbara) Olson. He was Grampa to Emily (Jon) Rappe, Tyler (Kimber) Hunter, Hillary Hunter, Heather and Phillip Olson and Greatgrampa to Kyla and Makenna Olson and Kobe Hunter. 

A Memorial service will be held at noon on  Friday, July 16,  at All Saints Lutheran, 314 S. Spruce St. in Browne’s Addition with Pastors Alan Eschenbacher and James Nestingen officiating. 

Memorial gifts can be given to All Saints Lutheran.
