Solutions to bear problems will be at the fair

| July 15, 2010 9:00 PM

Do bears get into your garbage, raid your fruit trees or ransack your berry patch? If so, the answers to your problem may be at the county fair in August.

The KVRI Grizzly Bear Committee will be teaming up with community members and agency partners to give electric fence demonstrations at the fair. There are several different fencing options available to keep bears away along with bear proof garbage containers.

Handouts, small mock-ups of electric fences and other bear information will be at their booth.

Properly installed fences can deter bears from bird feeders, garbage cans, barbecue grills, fruit trees, gardens and beehives. Feeding bears, whether grizzly or black, creates problems as the bear become habituated to human food. As the saying goes “a fed bear is a dead bear.”
