Closing Naples School is the start of consolidation

| June 3, 2010 9:00 PM

Due to possible state funding cuts, the school board believes Naples School must be closed to relieve the financial burden on our school district.

My question would be  have all other options been examined? Really. If so, I would expect accurate figures to be used in determining what our children’s education can survive without. Educating our children is the fabric of our economy’s future.

Wouldn’t it make sense to give our children the best atmosphere to achieve future goals?  I was told, along with a room full of other concerned people that “as little impact as possible” on school children was the school district’s utmost concern.

So, we shouldn’t be concerned with a crowded school, longer bus rides, fewer services and resources. This doesn’t impact our children. What will the next step in the process be? Closing Naples School is just the start to district consolidation, not the solution to financial restrictions.
