Difficult decision was hard for board to make

| June 3, 2010 9:00 PM

As we prepare for a community vote on June 8 to close Naples Elementary School, we just want to let the Naples community know that the school board trustees are very sad to even have to make this difficult decision.

Since we didn't have a large turnout at the public forum last Wednesday, we would like to clear up some misinformation.  If the election vote passes, all of the teaching staff would have jobs. All but one classified personnel will have a job.

We are trusting an opportunity will open up for that one classified person.  And all the children will be in reasonable size classes and their teachers will be in the same school. We will provide a good education for all and even an enhanced education by pooling our resources.

This came about with all the budget cuts via our federal and state economy. We are not alone in trying to figure out what to do. These cuts went deep and it will take a very long time before there is an adequate cash flow again. The board realized that we needed to secure our district.

There is much more information to provide, but, we would direct you to the Boundary County School District Website and look at the financial information we posted (www.bcsd101.com).
