Edward Ernest “Ed” Olson, 92

Edward Ernest “Ed” Olson, 92, of Bonners Ferry and former Ponderay resident passed away from this life on  Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at Boundary Community Hospital. 

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at Coffelt Funeral Chapel with Pastor Don Kramer officiating.  Private interment will take place in Pinecrest Memorial Park.

He was born Sept. 26, 1917, in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho, the son of Edward and Ella Olson. He was raised in Dover with his two sisters, Ruth and Evelyn and three brothers, Cliff, Elmer, and Willie. He attended schools in both Dover and Sandpoint.

He served in Civilian Conservation Corps camps near Avery, Idaho, for two years. He worked for the Forrest Service for a couple of years, and later owned his own truck and hauled logs for many years.  In the early 1970’s, he was injured in a logging accident and retired.

Ed married Pheobe Gognon in 1938. After Pheobe died, he married Lois Orr in 1961.

Ed enjoyed his 1947 GMC pickup, and visiting friends. Ed was also a 50-year member of the Eagles.

He is survived by three daughters: Gail Olson and Dorine  Doyle, both of Naples, Idaho; and  Jane (Dick) Watts of Kalispell, Mont.; nine grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great grandchildren.              He was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, daughter, Edna Queen; brothers Elmer, Clifford and William; two sisters, Ruth Oliver and Evelyn Perry; grandsons Alec Doyle and Ed Wilson; and great-grandson Dustin Dodge.
