30 years and growing

| June 17, 2010 9:00 PM

BONNERS FERRY–The Bonners Ferry Farmers Market will be holding a  celebration to commemorate  30 years.

The celebration  will go from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, June 26, in downtown Bonners Ferry Idaho in the city parking lot.

There will be music provided by Kathi Oleary, cake, drawings for market gifts, information and photos of past markets.

The regular market with local plants, produce, and crafts will take place at the same time.  H

One of the oldest farmers' markets in the state of Idaho, the Bonners Ferry Farmers Market got    its start in 1980 as the Boundary County Farmers Market with the help of our County Extension Agent, Ben Studer.

The original site was at the fairgrounds and was windy and hard to find, and in a few years they moved the location to the city parking lot which is more convenient for customers and vendors alike.

The Bonners Ferry area is scenic and in the summer many tourists stop through the market for a taste of local color.

The Farmers Market has grown from a few hardy souls selling produce and bare-root plants to an average of nearly 30 vendors per market day with everything from salad mix, herbal vinegars and spices to handmade soaps, handspun yarn, basketry and lawn furniture.  Many local small businesses have gotten their "training wheels" by participating in our market.

Updated details and information can be found on the Farmers Market Website, www.bonnersferryfarmersmarket.org, and Bonners Ferry Farmers Market Facebook page.
