Robert (Bobby) James Moore

Robert (Bobby) James Moore passed away peacefully at home on June 17, 2010.  Bob was born December 18, 1931 to Ralph and Edith (Hadley) Moore in Sandpoint, Idaho.

He attended Farmin Grade School, was a member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and served as an alter boy and also belonged to Boy Scouts of America.  He spent many days cutting wood for the family and always in a hurry to finish so he could go fishing and swimming at the “Sandpoint Docks”.  On his way, he would stop and watch Grandpa Moore and Bo Johnson play cribbage in the afternoons.  There are many pictures around town of Bo Johnson and his dog.  He also said when Grandpa Moore and Bo had their beer they would give the dog a drink which he loved.

Bob graduated in 1949 from Sandpoint High School.  While in high school he was an outstanding athlete lettering in basketball, football, and baseball.  He then married his classmate Beth Roos and together they raised four children.  Later divorcing.

After graduating from Sandpoint High School he worked for “Signal Oil Company” for 18 years, Sandpoint Motors for 23 years, and Alpine Motors for 9 years, retiring in 1996.

Bob met his sole mate Trudell (Trudy) Mendenhall in 1985 and they were together until his death.  In the summertime when Bob wasn’t golfing, they spent their time boating or camping on the Pend Oreille River with friends and family.  They enjoyed the winter months in Palm Springs, California where he hit his first hole in one in 2003. 

He rarely missed golfing on Thursdays and Sundays with his many buddies as Bob was always up for a challenge, golfing until the time of his death.  Bob worked at the Elks Golf Course for the past two summers making sure the golf course was up to par for all the golfers to enjoy.

Bob had a spontaneous laugh and a warm smile for everyone.  He was always there to lend a helping hand and first to buy a cold drink for a friend.

He loved all sports.  He officiated basketball for 15 years and was inducted into the “North Idaho Officials Association” Hall of Fame in 1996.  He was a time keeper for   SHS basketball for 34 years and football for 54 years.  He played pro baseball for three years for “The Pack River Beavers” playing in “Spokane Twilight League” winning the  League Championship three years in a row and the State Championship in 1956.  He played softball in “City League” for ten years.  They won the City Championship five years in a row.  He loved golfing and was always ready to play.  He played in the Elks Golf League, Hidden Lakes League, and Senior League, winning many trophies along the way. He was a member and representative for Sandpoint of North Idaho Senior Mens Golf Association, also a  member of USGA.  In 2006 he was was selected for the  District 1 Distinguished Service Award from the Idaho High School Athletic Association. In 2007 he was elected to the Sandpoint High School Hall of Fame receiving a Bulldog  Athletic “Lifetime Achievement Award”.

Bob was a member of the “Elks Lodge” for 53 years, serving as Exalted  Ruler twice.  He was Chairman of the Blood Bank committee for several years. In 1979 he pioneered the Elks Hoop Shoot in Sandpoint and was chairman for 6 years. He was also member of Eagles Lodge for 32 years, and a member of the Bonners Ferry Boat Club.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Edith Moore, a brother Stanley and stepmother Lucille Moore.  Survivors are daughter, Carla (Randy) Poelstra, Sandpoint, three sons, David (Cynthia) Moore, Spirit Lake, Idaho, Robert (Kathi) Moore, Cocolalla, Doug (Kathi) Moore, Menden, Michigan.  Stepchildren, daughter Lisa (Scott) Barksdale, Sandpoint, two sons, Kevin (Julie) Mendenhall, Aloha, Oregon, Cory (Brooke) Mendenhall, Virginia Beach, Virginia, 17grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
