Health care system a mess

| March 4, 2010 8:00 PM

We have the best medical system, if one can afford it.

But some of us who work can’t afford it. This is what health insurance would run our family.

Private health insurance would be 30 percent of our monthly income but with $2,000 deductible and with a 20 percent co-pay. To have insurance with out a co-pay it would cost us well over 50 percent of our income.

None of our other insurance even comes close. Our house is just around 3 percent of our income and auto insurance is just right around 8 percent.

Currently private health insurance can possibly deny one treatment. The people involved with health insurance aren't doctors.

We have three government programs that help people with their medical cost — veterans, Medicare and Medicaid. I have some knowledge due to working in the home care system.

To qualify for Medicaid on S.S.I one can't make over $100 a month, and their personal wealth can't be over $2,000, which includes their auto.

Something needs to be done with our health insurance companies as it's plain to see their completely out of wack.
