Joy Ellen Canavan, 32, of Bonners Ferry died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2010.

A funeral will be held 1 p.m. Friday, March 5, at Mountain Springs Church on South Main Street in Bonners Ferry.

Joy was born Oct. 7, 1977.

After earning her GED, Joy became a certified nurse’s aide at a local nursing home, where she was much loved by the residents.

Continuing her education, Joy became an emergency medical technician, then an advanced emergency medical technician. She volunteered many hours, days and years with the local ambulance service and was directly involved in the saving many lives in Boundary County.

Joy’s joy was in helping those in need.

At the time of her death, she was working for Knighthawke Security, where she was honored Site Manager of the Year for 2009.

In her spare time Joy enjoyed climbing Roman Nose, making beaded jewelry, country music, photography, the study of criminology and traditional dance. She learned Hebrew, was part of a Hebrew dance group and was learning Celtic dance.

Doing some of her own maintenance, Joy kept her ancient Ford Thunderbird running long past all expectation.

Joy will be missed by many.

She is survived by her mother Joyce, father Dan, grandmother Margaret, sister Ann, brothers Jim and Daniel, and nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
